Our main text types are:
Narrative - creative story
Recount - story about something that has happened
Explanation - explaining how or why something works
Persuasive writing - Giving reasons to persuade people on an issue
Instructions - How to do something
Poetry - Using imagery to create poetic writing

This is our level 4 checklist:
WRITING CHECKLIST for Level 4 writing
PLANNING
Have I chosen a genre or structure that suits my purpose?
Have I got a section for each paragraph?
Is the main idea for each paragraph clear?
Are there words or phrases to guide the other sentences in the paragraph?
Have I gathered the vocabulary for my subject?  And checked I can spell it?
DRAFTING and REWORKING
Is there evidence of using feedback to improve?
SENTENCES
Have I rewritten some sentences, or changed them around to give a different impact? 
Are there different types of sentences?
Do the sentences start in different ways?
LANGUAGE
Literary devices for poetic writing –e.g. metaphor, simile, adjectives, precise verbs.
Technical vocabulary for informational writing, precise verbs
Is the tone suitable (eg. not chatty for a technical explanation)
STRUCTURE
Is there a clear introduction?
Paragraphs with detail?  Everything explained, no confusion for the reader.
Are there links between the paragraphs?
Conclusion refers back to the introduction and wraps it up.
EDITING
All high frequency words are spelt correctly
Words have been sounded out.
You’ve applied spelling rules.
You have checked any words you’re still not sure of
Punctuation is correct using a range of punctuation to help the writing flow – e.g. commas, exclamation marks, speech marks, and colons
CONFERENCING
You will conference regularly with your buddy.
At some point you will conference with the teacher – this could be about any part of the process –have you used your feedback?
PUBLISHING – choose what you want to publish you don’t have to do everything.  Publish on a shared Google doc with the teacher or emailed to teacher.

We use this rubric to judge our writing on to make sure we are level 4 writers:
b = beginning        p = proficient        a= advanced
